Dhaka, May 12: Buoyed by the convincing series win over Bangladesh, Indian captain Rahul Dravid today said his team would use the success as a springboard to face future challenges. "Definitely, it is nice to win. It will help us be positive in the days ahead. There are tough challenges ahead of us. We will use this win as the springboard to face up to them," Dravid said after the 46 run win over Bangladesh which enabled the visitors to pocket the three-match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Asked whether the victory would help his side recover after the World Cup debacle, Dravid said "we can't do anything about the past. Now, it's a good start for us." Reflecting on today's match, he said the role of the top order was to play aggressively. "They have to be positive and take chances. In doing so, it may well be that they may not come off well on a particular day." Refering to teenage leggie Piyush Chawla, who made his debut today, the captain said "seeing the conditions, we decided to go into the match with an extra spinner. Moreover, Sreesanth has a calf muscle problem. Nice to see someone get an opportunity. It gives the selectors options."
When asked about the loss of momentum in the latter part of the Indian innings, Dravid said "they were not the ideal conditions. We lost a few wickets in the slog overs but were happy with the score of 284 under the gruelling conditions. "We were very confident after we got the huge total. We knew Bangladesh will have to play really hard." The inclusion of Robin Singh as fielding coach had also helped the team, he said.
"We always knew that the right approach is to work hard. There is scope for improving our fielding. Our motto is to keep working and the results will show." Asked about Virender Sehwag failing once again, Dravid said "people have roles. Everyone in the top order has a role to play. The top order has to go out and hit, and in the process they can lose wickets. We have to accept that." (Agencies)
