Dhaka, May 12: Losing too many early wickets did the side in, rued Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore after India beat the hosts by 46 runs to win the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium here today. "We lost so many early wickets. Had we not lost them, the results would have been better," Whatmore said after the match.
By the time the score reached 92, Bangladesh in fact had lost the top half of its batting order. He also lamented the run-out of opener Tamim Iqbal, who otherwise has a penchant to do well against India. "The first wicket was a bit of a gift to the Indians," Whatmore said. Tamim was run out for seven following a yes-no with his partner Javed Omar. Whatmore, however, derived some positives from the defeat.
"Bangladesh now have the ability to scare away a few people. Our objective is to be more competitive. We wanted to reduce mistakes and we do understand a bit more now that we have to be tougher in some given situations. It showed in the first game. "We continue to present gifts. But still we came back and scored more than 200," he said.
Whatmore also refrained from criticising his wards for their rather sloppy fielding in the match today. "Fielding in these conditions was tough. Like in most teams, not all the guys are superbly athletic. Some of them are good, some are standard. But that's okay," he added. (Agencies)
