Dhaka, May 12: Back with a bang, Gautam Gambhir, architect of India's 46-run win against Bangladesh in the second ODI today, said he did not play with a view to cementing his place in the side. "I am very happy to have scored a century. It's really a great honour to wear India colours and score a ton," Man of the Match Gambhir told news persons after the match.
Asked if the century would buttress his case for a permanent berth in the side, Gambhir said, "It's not about cementing my place.I am happy that I played a part in India's victory. I am concentrating on each game and not thinking on the long term." He, however, said that it was highly satisfying to stage a comeback into the Indian team and strike a hundred.
"Coming back into the side after a long time, makes this innings special," he said. On his 101-run knock, Gambhir said it was not easy batting out there, especially in the morning when it was quite humid. "It was not easy to go out there and score in this conditions. I had bad cramps. However, I fought it. I knew it was an important innings. The idea was to play for long and stick around till the 40th over at least." Gambhir cracked the second ton of his ODI career today. Incidentally, he made his debut against Bangladesh and his first hundred came against Sri Lanka in 2005 in Ahmedabad. (Agencies)
