Nottingham,
July 31: England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has taken
exception to Sreesanth's performance in the second Test, saying
he was concerned by the fast bowler's huge front-foot no-ball on
the fourth day. Sreesanth, who was fined 50 per cent of his
match for colliding with Vaughan when he was batting in the
second innings, overstepped the bowling crease by more than a
foot once. He also delivered a beamer to Kevin Pietersen but
Vaughan said Sreesanth's no-ball was the major problem.
"A beamer was bowled and he (Sreesanth) said
it was an accident. We take his word for that but I guess more
of a concern is a huge no-ball," Vaughan said after India won
the match by 7 wickets at Trent Bridge today. "I have spoken to
Rahul Dravid (Indian captain) this morning. Sreesanth is young
and a real good talent but I hope he didn't bowl a two foot over
the line no-ball to try and intimidate the batsman because it is
a tactic which could be used in most games and we don't want to
see that." Dravid admitted the Kerala pacer needed to learn to
control his aggression.
He said Sreesanth could take a leaf out of
teammate Zaheer Khan's book on being aggressive without
violating cricket's laws. "I think he (Sreesanth) has a great
example in Zaheer Khan. If he needs to learn from anyone, he
just needs to look at what Zaheer has done," Dravid said. Zaheer
was also involved in an incident with England players but made
sure his emotions were channelled into his bowling. He claimed
5-75 to pave the way for Indian victory and was aptly named man
of the match.
"Zaheer has been as aggressive as anyone else
without going over the top and just sticking to performing and
getting wickets," Dravid said. "Sree is a talented bowler, young
and a bit excitable. He is going learn along the way. It's our
responsibility to try to ensure he learns." Vaughan brushed
aside the talk about his players allegedly throwing jelly beans
on the pitch when Zaheer came in to bat on the third day.
"It is an incident that has been blown out of
proportion," he said. "I guess one of the guys might have left
one by the crease just as a prank for the new batsman. If it
offended Zaheer in any way, we apologise for that." (Agencies)
