England inducts Luke Wright as cover News

London, Sept 4: With Andrew Flintoff, Chris Tremlett and Ravi Bopara nursing some sort of injury or the other, England has pencilled in Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright as cover for the remaining two ODIs against India. "The Sussex all-rounder, who was recently named in England's squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, has been called up following injuries to Ravi Bopara, Andrew Flintoff and Chris Tremlett," the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement. Tremlett underwent an injection into his injured right foot and will not be available for the sixth NatWest Series one-day international at the Brit Oval here tomorrow. His fitness will be reassessed ahead of the final match in the series at Lord's on Saturday, the statement said.

Bopara injured his thumb while trying to catch Gautam Gambhir off his own bowling in the fifth one dayer at Headingley, while Flintoff missed the match with a recurring ankle injury.

The injuries to Bopara and Flintoff will be reassessed by the England medical team later today even though the team is optimistic about Flintoff's possible return.

Wright has already established his reputation as an explosive player with his heroics in the 2007 Twenty20 Cup where he was the top scorer. It also earned him a berth in England's 15-man squad for the Twenty20 World Cup.

Wright was impressive in India's warm up match against England Lions, for which he struck a 40-balll 56. Meanwhile, the injury-hit hosts, however, can take heart from the fact that pacer Ryan Sidebottom has been cleared to rejoin the squad after recovering from a side strain. (Agencies)
