Sydney, Oct 15: Batsman Darren Lehmann has been dropped from Australia's one-day cricket squad for the triangular series against India and New Zealand that begins later this month in India, it was announced today. Michael Clarke, the 22-year-old wonder from New South Wales, was named in the 14-man squad in the absence of Lehmann, who played in the World Cup earlier this year, but has been struggling with Achilles tendon problems.
Injured fast bowler Jason Gillespie was included in the team for the India tour subject to a fitness test, with West Australian Brad Williams set to replace him if he's ruled out. Lehmann's Achilles tendon soreness flared up during Australia's bashing of Zimbabwe in their first Test last weekend in Perth, but he was hopeful of playing in the second Test starting in Sydney on Friday.
The one-day squad leaves for India on October 22 for the three-and-a-half week three-way series.
