Yuvraj sees Test debut as Godsend

Chandigarh, Oct 15: Now that his long wait for a place in the Test team is over, Yuvraj Singh says he would not change his attacking batting style which has made him a permanent member of India's one-day international team. "I don't think by playing in a Test my natural game will be affected in any way. As the situation demands, I will adjust accordingly," said Yuvraj Singh, who will don his maiden Test cap in the second and final match against New Zealand starting here tomorrow.

The stylish left-hander comes into the team as a replacement for captain Sourav Ganguly who has been ruled out of the series decider after undergoing a minor surgery for an abscess in his left thigh. Yuvraj, who has established himself at the crucial No 6 slot in the shorter version of the game, said he would not curb his natural stroke play in Tests. "I will not need to change the basic nature of my game, but I will adapt as the situation demands," the Punjab batsman said.

Yuvraj, who hit the headlines as a junior cricketer when he scored 358 in the under-19 domestic championship in 1998-99 and played a key role in India winning the Under-19 Worl d Cup in Sri Lanka the following season, said tomorrow's match was a "Godsend" for him. "I have worked hard for this day and I treat it as a Godsend. I will try to meet the team's expectations," he said. "The feeling is yet to sink in. It is one of the happiest days of my life."
