Sachin setup unbreakable record:Kambli
Mumbai, Dec 10: Vinod Kambl said today he was extremely happy for his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar who notched his 35th hundred today at Delhi to shoot past Sunil Gavaskar as the player with the most number of Test centuries to his credit.
"I am very happy he broke Gavaskar's record and I want him to score so many centuries in his Test career that the record would remain unconquered," Kambli told reporters at the Wankhede Stadium here.
"I am happy he's reached the milestone. He must have been feeling the pressure. Now that he's achieved the record the pressure would be off his back," said the flamboyant left handed batsman and India discard.
"He's very strong mentally and has made full use of his talent. That's what differentiates him (from the rest), he said. Asked whether he saw any difference to Tendulkar's batting from earlier days, the former India batsman said he did not.
"His approach to the game has remained unchanged all these years. He plays in the same manner that he did when he was 14," said Kambli who had created a world schools partnership record with Tendulkar during their Shardashram days. Kambli was at the stadium to watch the second day's play between Mumbai and Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Elite division group A tie. Bengal coach Paras Mhambrey and former state captain Rohan Gavaskar, the only son of Sunil, also hailed the master batsman's feat, which he achieved in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka.
"I am extremely happy that Sachin has done it. He's been my hero. He's a genius and there's no limit (to what he can achieve," Gavaskar jr said. Mhambrey, who was once Tendulkar's Mumbai teammate before taking up coaching, said that he was very happy over the latter's achievement. "I have grown as a cricketer with him. I know what hard work he has done to reach this stage," the former medium pacer added. (Agencies)
