Sri Lanka team too has health concerns

Ahmedabad, Dec 17: Sri Lanka grappled with health concerns with fast bowlers Chaminda Vaas and Dilhara Fernando having fallen ill ahead of the third and final cricket Test against India here from tomorrow. "A number of players are down with various illness and it is the same in the Indian camp," Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody said with optimism on the eve of the tie.

The visitors trail 1-0 after having lost the second Test. They are yet to win a Test in India since they first visited in 1983. "Fernando and Vaas are down with high temperature and are not 100 percent fit," he said after both the players skipped nets today. "They will probably be fine by tomorrow morning." Sri Lankan skipper Marvan Atapattu was also recovering from a bout of flu. However, their ace spinner Muttiah Muralidharan, who picked up a thigh strain, was fine.

"After a day's rest today, I think the players will recover in time and a full squad will be available when the final eleven will be selected tomorrow morning," he added. Moody said the top priority of the team was to win the Test match and level the series. "A win here will be Sri Lanka's first Test victory in India," Moody remarked. The Sri Lanka coach said the tourists were eager not to repeat the mistakes, which cost them the second Test match in Delhi.

"We had three major batting collapses in the Delhi Test," Moody said, adding, "it is up to the players to review their performances and learn from the past." (Agencies)
