Cuttack, Jan 24: India exploited a turning track to snatch a thrilling 20-run victory over the West Indies in the low-scoring second cricket one-dayer and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series here today.

After being bundled out for 189, the Indian bowlers stuck to the task admirably to shut out their opponents at 169 with 10 balls to spare in the day-night encounter at the Barabati Stadium.

Dinesh Kaarthick struck his maiden half-century to help the team recover from a top order collapse while the stocky Ramesh Powar was the pick of the bowlers with 3-42 in a match which saw fortune fluctuate from one team to the other till the very end.

Kaarthick scored a valuable 63 from 87 balls with seven fours, and his 62-run association with Ajit Agarkar lifted India from a lowly 90 for seven.

Agarkar made a vital 40 at No. 9, stretching the score after Kaarthick was bowled while trying to steer Ian Bradshaw to thirdman.

Right-arm seamer Darren Powell exploited the slow and spongy nature of the Barabati wicket to grab his career best figures of 4-27.

West Indies once again relied on opener Shivnarine Chanderpaul to take the fight to the Indian camp.

Chanderpaul, who hit an unbeaten 149 in the first one-dayer while chasing a daunting 338-3, scored a masterly 66.

The two teams will now travel to Chennai for the third game to be played under lights on Saturday. (Agencies)
