Nagpur, Jan 19: Sourav Ganguly may be susceptible against short-pitched stuff but West Indies captain Brian Lara feels it is the rival fast bowlers who need to be alert against the Bengal southpaw.
Lara was sure that the former India captain, recalled to the one-day team after more than 15 months, would not find it difficult to get back into the groove in the shorter form of the game.
"I think Sourav Ganguly is a very good player. I don't think it will be hard for him to come into the groove immediately. All fast bowlers will be wary of him. He's an international player, a former India captain," Lara said.
To another question, Lara disagreed with the view expressed by swashbuckling Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilrchrist that the advent of Twenty20 cricket would help teams score 400 runs on a regular basis in the 50-over
ODIs.
"I am not sure about that. When you start getting to 400 you start talking about bad bowling. To me for a team to get 400 in 300 balls on a regular basis is going to be difficult," he said.
"There's the question of ten wickets and consolidation period if we lose wickets.
"Twenty overs cricket is different. With eleven guys to bat you can get eight or nine runs an over. The same is not going to happen over a 50-over period. It's going to be difficult. Not everybody can bat as well as Gilchrist." (Agencies)
