Apollo Hospitals MoU with BCCI
In
a monumental decision, Apollo Hospitals, Asia’s largest
healthcare provider, signed an MoU with the Board of Control
for Cricket in India (BCCI) under which Apollo Hospitals
will extend its services to members of the cricket
fraternity. The MoU was signed January 23 in Chennai.
Under the
pact BCCI will refer cricketers selected for national teams
at various levels as well as for the teams of affiliated
units for an age assessment test on an exclusive basis to
the hospital. Also, Apollo Hospitals will provide services
to players who require injury management and emergency care.
The hospital will also exclusively reserve beds for the team
at the nearest Apollo Hospital to any match venue.
Apollo
Hospitals has contributed extensively to all the segments of
healthcare, in technology, infrastructure, personnel and
education. While Apollo has in the past, played the role of
safety partner for many sports events, this is a
first-of-its-kind understanding with the cricket fraternity.
Commenting
on this joint agreement, Dr. Prathap C Reddy, chairman,
Apollo Hospitals, says, “It is indeed a wonderful
opportunity for Apollo Hospitals to provide healthcare
services to the BCCI members. Healthcare management is a
pressing need with any sport and in future we do hope to
extend this to other sporting arenas as well.”
Among other
points of agreement in the MoU, the BCCI will refer injured
cricketers at various levels to Apollo Hospitals. Apollo, in
turn, would identify the doctor, preferably in the same zone
as the cricketer, making it convenient for the player to
visit the doctor for treatment/rehabilitation.
Says
Jagmohan Dalmiya, president, BCCI, “It is greatly
important to us that the health of Indian cricketers is
entrusted to the right hands. Apollo Hospitals, Asia’s
leading healthcare provider and a trusted name in
healthcare, gives us the confidence to do so. Moreover,
Apollo Hospitals’ vast network and infrastructure enables
us to receive healthcare support by the best doctors
anywhere in the country.”
This is the
first time the cricket board has exclusively signed on a
healthcare organisation for managing aspects of healthcare
for Indian cricketers. With time, both parties hope to
extend this to the complete healthcare management for BCCI.
