Young paceman Avishkar Salvi and Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir are among the four new faces included today in the 15-member
Indian cricket squad for the triangular one-day series to be held in Dhaka from April 11 to 20. The youngsters have been rewarded for their consistent performances in recent times, BCCI secretary S K Nair told reporters here.
Dashing opener Virender Sehwag was appointed the vice-captain of the team, which also has Abhijit Kale and Amit Mishra as the other two new faces. With many of the seniors in India's World Cup squad opting out of the tour, the national selectors preferred to go in for youngsters who have performed creditably during India-A's recent tour of the West Indies.
Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, vice-captain Rahul Dravid and paceman Ashish Nehra had made themselves unavailable for the tour due to injury. Both Tendulkar and Dravid had finger injuries while Nehra has been ruled out of action for at least five months because of an ankle injury. Pace spearhead Javagal Srinath was keen to take rest while leg spinner Anil Kumble skipped the trip due to “personal reasons”.
