The national selectors today decided to retain Mohammed Kaif and Dinesh Mongia with the Indian cricket team now in England but said they would play only in first class matches.
An emergent meeting of the national selectors, which took place here to take stock of the situation following India’s sensational win at the NatWest trophy final, decided that it was necessary that every player was kept match-fit in view of the ICC Champions Trophy in September, BCCI president Jagmoham Dalmiya said.
Yuvraj Singh, however, will return to India following a finger injury which would keep him out of action for three weeks. Kaif and Yuvraj were the heroes of the last Saturday’s victory.
