The Indian cricket team was fined 35 per cent of its match fee for slow over rate during New Zealand’s first innings in the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington last week.
Match-referee Mike Procter told reporters at the end of the second Test here today that the Indians had bowled six overs less than scheduled in the first game.
“They have been fined 35 per cent for bowling slow in the first Test - even in the second Test, they were slow in New Zealand’s second innings but in consultation with the two umpires, I decided against it (imposing any penalty),” said Procter.
Procter explained that according to ICC guidelines, a team can only be fined if an innings has lasted for over 50 overs - so it didn’t apply in the first three innings of the second Test which ended inside the dividing line for fines. |
