Kaif, Yohannan selected for ODI

Features

India has dropped V V S Laxman and Ashish Nehra from the squad for the third one-day international against the West Indies to be played here tomorrow. Laxman, with 474 runs in five matches at an average of 79.00 in the recent Test series, would be replaced by Mohammed Kaif, and Nehra makes way for Tinu Yohannan, said captain Sourav Ganguly.

“Kaif has done exceedingly well in the two home series against England and Zimbabwe and he was also in prime touch for India-A against South Africa recently,” Ganguly said. Referring to Yohannan, the skipper said the medium pacer from Kerala looked very good at the nets and Nehra probably needed to recover from the exertions of the Test series.

Commenting on the batting line-up, Ganguly said he and Tendulkar would open the innings in case of India batting first, but while chasing a target, the Mumbai batsman would come in at No 4 with Dinesh Mongia coming in at No 3. He also confirmed that Rahul Dravid has been asked to keep wickets and take the No 5 slot in the batting order.
