Ace leg spinner Anil Kumble today indicated that he is not disheartened by the broken jaw that forced him out of the ongoing series against the West Indies and said “it is part and parcel of the game”.
“I am all right now,” the bowler told reporters on his arrival at the Bangalore airport from Mumbai early this morning. Kumble was not sporting a bandage but had some difficulty in speaking.
“I am disappointed (at the fracture) but it is part and parcel of the game,” said the bowler who was hit on the jaw by a Mervyn Dillon short-pitched delivery on Saturday.
“I have to see the surgeons today and the doctors will decide on it (surgery),” Kumble, who was received warmly by his parents and wife at the airport, said.
Kumble broke his jaw during the fourth Test against the West Indies but fought off acute pain in the fractured jaw to bowl 14 overs unchanged on Sunday.
According to sources at the hospital where he will undergo surgery, a team of dental specialists would examine him. The surgery is likely to be performed on Thursday.
