West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo was rushed to a Trinidad hospital with head and facial injuries after being involved in an automobile accident in his native Guyana.
The leg-spinner was apparently a passenger in a mini-van that ran off the road and crashed in his hometown of Berbice in the interior of Guyana early morning yesterday. Details of the accident were unclear.
Nagamootoo, 26, was rushed to a Guyana hospital where he received stitches to his head and face. He was then flown to Trinidad for extended treatment.
Nagamootoo, his mother and Dr Niamath Ali arrived by a special charter in Trinidad shortly after 3 pm (0030 IST today) and were taken to the St Claire Medical Complex. His face and feet were bruised, his neck was in a brace as he lay motionless while being wheeled in to the clinic.
The hospital would not comment on the extent of Nagamootoo's injuries. A hamstring injury forced Nagamootoo out of the second Test. He was expected to have recovered in time for the third Test in Barbados next week.
