Guwahati,
November 8: World Cup Champions Australia have arrived here to play
the tri-series One Day International cricket match against New
Zealand at the Nehru Stadium here. The team led by its captain Ricky
Ponting flew in from Delhi and were immediately whisked away amidst
tight security in a special bus to a city hotel.
The Aussies were
received in a traditional manner by Assam Cricket Association
officials at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport
here. Fans had lined up to get a glimpse of the world champions who
are already through to the final of the tri-series to be played in
Eden Gardens. Meanwhile, heavy security arrangements have been put
in place by the Assam police as per the guidelines of the BCCI for
the November 9 one dayer, and the two hotels where the teams would
stay, the stadium and the two-km stretch leading to the Nehru
stadium have been sanitised.
Mediamen have also
been barred from taking mobile telephones inside the stadium as all
the facilities for transmitting news would be provided from the
stadium complex. The New Zealand team is already here. (Agencies)
