New Delhi, Oct 22: The 14-member Australian squad to play in the tri-nation limited overs cricket series beginning tomorrow arrived here tonight. The three-time World Champions led by Ricky Ponting arrived via Singapore amidst tight security. The Aussie team was without their three key fast bowlers, Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee, who are out due to injuries.
Also, for the first time in 17 years, Australia stepped on the Indian soil without Steve Waugh who was replaced as one-day cricket captain by Ponting in 2001-02. Hosts India take on New Zealand in the opening match of the tri-series in Chennai tomorrow. Australia play their first match against India October 26 at Gwalior in a day-night encounter before locking horns with their trans-Tasman rivals in a day match at Faridabad October 29.
