Faridabad, Oct 28:
Australia were struck with another injury blow today when speedster
Michael Kasprowicz was ruled out of the tri-series cricket match
against New Zealand at Faridabad tomorrow. Australia are already
without four of their frontline bowlers in Glenn McGrath, Jason
Gillespie, Brett Lee and Shane Warne, and the latest setback has
made matters worse for the world champions. Australian skipper Ricky
Ponting confirmed that Kasprowicz would not be playing against the
Kiwis but said his availability for the rest of the matches of the
tri-series would be known after an assessment of his fitness in the
next couple of days.
Kasprowicz, who did
not play in Australia's first match of the series against India on
Sunday at Gwalior, sprained his hip muscle during nets on the same
day. "It is unfortunate (the injury to the bowler). We have not
asked for a replacement yet. We will wait for a couple of days to
see how bad it is," Ponting told reporters after nets at the
Palam Cricket Ground here.
The Aussie skipper
said the replacement would not necessarily be a fast bowler.
"It could be a quickie or a spinner." (Agencies)
