Kiwis look to improve record against Aussies

Faridabad, Oct 28: An upbeat New Zealand will look to improve upon their recent success against Australia when they take on the three-time world champions in the TVS Cup triangular limited overs cricket match here tomorrow. "They have dominated us mostly but in the last two-three years we have done pretty well and we look forward to furthering that," New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming said after the team practice session at the Nahar Singh stadium here today.

Australia have a 58-25 head-to-head record against the Kiwis in one-day internationals, and won their last two meetings in the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka in 2002 and in the World Cup in South Africa early this year. New Zealand are also handicapped by the loss of all-rounder Chris Cairns who was yet to fully recover from the hamstring injury he sustained during the rain-abandoned opening match against India in Chennai last week.

But Fleming drew confidence from the three wins over the trans-Tasman rivals in their own soil in a similar tri-series in 2001-02. Fleming's men also came close to winning the three-Test series in Australia that season.

"The New Zealand public back home judge our performance against Australia as the benchmark; if we perform against the Aussies it gives us a lot of credibility," Fleming said. (Agencies)
