Sachin Tendulkar was today ruled out from the entire seven-match one-day series against the West Indies due to a hamstring muscle injury. Tendulkar, who suffered the injury during his marathon 176-run knock on the fifth day of the third and final cricket Test against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens, will be replaced by Dinesh Mongia, according to BCCI president Jagmohan
Dalmiya.
Dalmiya said the national selectors held a tele-conference after Tendulkar's injury was confirmed and decided to include Mongia in the 14-member one-day squad. The medical report from team physiotherapist Andrew Leipus however, said the injury to Tendulkar was not "too serious”, Dalmiya said.
But to prevent further damage and to rehabilitate the muscle, Tendulkar was advised rest for the next three weeks.
The selection committee has announced the team for the first three one-day internationals. The team for the rest of the matches would be named after the third match in Rajkot. |
