DVDs on Bharatanatyam released
Swathi Soft Solutions has released a set of VCDs, DVDs and audio CDs under their Sanskriti Series to regale Bharatanatyam lovers. The release function was held in Chennai on December 9. There are, in all, 4 DVDs, 5 VCDs and 4 audio CDs that unveil and analyse the complexities of abhinaya - an important component of Bharatanatyam that is all about communicating a variety of emotions through coordinated movements of the body supported by music, meaningful lyric, attire and
omaments.
Similarly, invocatory items like Pushpanjali, Alarippu, Thodyamangalam, Kavuthuvam and Mallari have also been presented.
These products, created by Swathi Soft Solutions with technical inputs from 'Nrithya Choodamani' Priyadarsini Govind, the noted danseuse, symbolise a synergy between a traditional art form and technology; and stands for an endeavour that aims at perpetuating and preserving our heritage for posterity.
Bharatanatyam: Abhinaya - the beauty & breadth - Demonstration & Recital

This twin DVD pack takes the viewer on an exotic joumey through abhinaya. Designed, presented and performed by Priyadarsini Govind, it unfolds the fresh and fascinating aspects of Angika, Vachika, Aharya and Satvika
abhinayas.
The demo DVD carries 'line-to-line' demos of lyrics with graphic descriptions covering the meanings of the words, the mood of the poet and the emotion it conveys. The significance and subtleties of abhinaya are brought out through a typical classroom session that captures the free interaction between the teacher and the taught. Expert comments are by Kalanidhi Narayanan, a celebrated abhinaya exponent.
The recital DVD presents a collage of seven demos by Priyadarsini and her disciples set to some lilting compositions.

In this twin DVD pack, the aesthetics and applications of invocatory items come alive. The viewer is treated to a sumptuous fare of some significant aspects of Pushpanjali, Alarippu, Thodayamangalam, Kavuthuvam and
Mallari.
The demo DVD carries demonstrations by young and sprightly students who describe the theory and techniques behind these items.
A galaxy of glittering artistes, musicologists, dancers and scholars like Prof C V Chandrasekhar, Prof Sudharani Raghupathy, Krishnakumari Narendran, Radha, B M Sundaram and Sujatha Vijayaraghavan share their expertise.
The topics are also available in VCDs. Further, the audio tracks of these items have been released in the form of four audio CDs that should come in handy as a practice or choreographic aid.
