For the first time ever, the Chettinad Players recently opened their gates to the public with their play, 'Karna - The Eternal Warrior'.

The Indian epics are immortalised by their characters. One such character from the Mahabharata is Karna - The Eternal Warrior. At all pertinent stages of life, his birth becomes an obstacle. His death on the seventeenth day of the war of Kurukshetra immortalises him as a warrior of a unique combination of humility and valour.

The versatile theatre artiste and director, J Jayakumar's passion for acting and drama has helped him equip himself with the nuances of modern acting and theatre craft. His association with Chettinad Vidyashram has led to various commendable productions under his guidance, such as Dhuthagadothgajam, lndrajit, Ravana and, now, Karna.

The scriptwriter of the play, Balakrishnan, who heads a reputed theatre group, Theatre Nisha, infused the drama with excitement.

The set designer of the play was Sabu Cyril, a renowned art director of many films.

The other plays performed by the Chettinad Players include 'The Man on the Chair' directed by Preetham Chakravarthy, 'Mahabharatha - The Game of Dice' directed by Preetham Chakravarthy, 'Don Quixote', directed by Mitran Devanesan, 'Behind the Lands of Harthamala', directed by Mangai, and 'Dhuthagadothgajam', 'Abhimanyu', 'lndrajit', 'Ravana' and, now, 'Karna', directed by Jayakumar.

Amudhalakshmi, the headmistress (Primary), of Chettinad Vidyashram, has also been instrumental in the success of the plays.
