Kalasamarpana presents Meghasandesa
The
Kalasamarpana Foundation presents a dance programme Meghasandesa (The Cloud Messenger) in Chennai on December 3, 2006. The organisation's director and dance guru Narasimhachari and Vasanthalakshmi have worked on the choreography for over four months to get ready the production in time for the Margazhi music and dance festival in Chennai.
Original choreograpy, beautiful technique, sensitive expression and sincere devotion to the art - these are the hallmarks of this duo.
Over 50 talented dancers and musicians are involved in this production, based on the chaste Sanskrit verses of Kalidasa, interspersed with some folk dances interpreting the mood, said Vasanthalakshmi. Kalidasa's work Meghasandesa is considered to be one of the masterpieces of world literature. "The verses are brought to life through the classical idioms of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi mixed with rhythmic folk dances," she added.
Narasimhachari said the beautiful verses of Kalidasa give ample scope for eye-catching dance sequences, particularly the variety of moods and exquisite descriptions of nature.
"Meghasandesa tells the story of a husband, who, separated from his beloved, uses a passing rain cloud to communicate a message of love and longing. To a world zipping on a fast track, Meghasandesa, with its quaint charm and values, is like a whiff of resh air."
Meghasandesa will be premiered at Vani Mahal, Sunday, December 3, 2006, at 6 p.m.
