Dance contest

The Sivan Fine Arts Academy, Shanthi Jayaram Trust and Kamala Mahadevan have jointly announced a dance competition on Rukmini Ramani's compositions.

Rukmini Ramani, daughter of Papanasam Sivan, is an accomplished composer in her own right and has composed over 2,000 kritis. Her songs have been published in six volumes titled 'Siva Sakthi Keerthana Malai'. Her songs (with mudra 'Sivakumari') and operas (Bhakta Meera) have also been released as nine audio cassettes, sung by her disciples and leading vidwans/vidushis.

The Shanthi Jayaram Trust was formed primarily to promote fine arts and cultural activities. A division of the trust also actively involves itself in imparting training in classical dance and music. The trust has been recognised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and has been chosen to train the teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya. It will also shortly release a book and CD on Bharatanatyam, to be presented by reputed danseuse and film artiste 'Vennira Aadai' Nirmala.
