Harshavardhana in French
Innland Theatre, the brainchild of Jawahar Lal, is set to stage the play ‘Harshavardhana’ on September 30, October 1 & 2 at Alliance Francaise Chennai.
Director Jawahar Lal’s association with Alliance Francaise spans a decade when he joined as a student in 1993. His passion for theatre and films has made him embark on directing plays in French. His maiden attempt, ‘Le Gross et le petit’, in French was a grand success. This was followed by ‘Vikatakavi’ (a historical play) and ‘Les Preccieuses Riducules’ (a comedy set in 17th century France) which hit the headlines too.
Innland Theatre, in association with Alliance Francaise, is ready for staging yet another of its production ‘Harshavardhana’, written and directed by Jawahar Lal. It has been translated into French by Prof Leela
Nagaraj.
The director’s penchant for history has made him stumble onto Harshavardhana. This play captures the quintessence of Harshavardhana’s reign, spanning 41 years (606-647 AD). The highlight of the play is the well-choreographed stunts. One has to see it to believe it.
