There is time for love
The 75th show of the super hit comedy play ‘Kadalikka Neramundu’, was staged on September 11 at R K Swamy hall. The chief guest of the day was Isaignani Ilayaraja. The United Amateur Artistes (UAA), the drama troupe led by Y Gee Mahendran, is also celebrating its golden jubilee.
The play was written by the son of Chitralaya Gopu. Chitralaya Gopu is the writer of the famous movie ‘Kadalikka Neramillai’. Though the play started late at 7 p.m. the show was brilliant. The performance put up by Mahendra and his troupe was astounding. The audience doubled up with laughter right from start to finish.
You could say the play revolves around ‘masal vadai’. A man runs off from his lover promising to buy her masal vadai (with her Rs 100!) and she remains a maiden. This turns out to be a hitch in the marriage of her niece who is in love with Mahendra. The duo get a bachelor to fall in love with the woman and things progress to the point where they bring the registrar to get them married. Well, is it a happy ending? Wait, there is a twist in the tale.
The show was concluded by a short speech by Ilayaraja. “I hardly go out anywhere and this is one play which I enjoyed very much. It is sad to see that plays are not so much in demand as they used to be in those days,” he said.
Now the troupe is leaving for USA to put up various shows of this hilarious play. Don’t miss their 100th show.
