Her Excellency Muniyamma on stage
Is power a masculine trait? Why are even women in power hailed (or ridiculed) as true males? Can someone wield power and still be non-violent and compassionate?
These are some of the questions are that are bound to come to the fore as the Tamil theatre group Pareeksha unfolds its play with a contemporary title 'Ahimsai Arasi Mudhalaam Muniyamma alias Vattam' raises issues relating to power, role of men and women, gender equity - all laced with typical Brechtian alienation and
humour.
Writer-director Gnani presents the Tamil version of Brecht's famous 'Caucasian Chalk Circle' to address contemporary concerns.
Muniyamma will be on stage at 3 p.m. and again at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2006, at the Top Storey of Alliance Francaise, College Road,
Nungambakam, Chennai.
