Need I say more about when the marathon is taking place? I just want to mention why and the run is for Chennai.

Marathon is a long-distance running event for a distance of 42.195 kilometers, i.e; 26 miles 385 yards.This is usually a road race. The event is named after the fabled run of the Greek soldier Pheidippides, a messenger from the Battle of Marathon to Athens.

The organisers say the run will prove that the city of Chennai is young and vibrant. It will show that conservatism and modernism run hand in hand. According to them, the event would reflect one more face of this great city. They hope the Chennai Marathon would project to the national and international audience what the city had to offer.



The prize money seems very large. Its all listed there from nutrition and training tips to givelife. Expected to be south India's largest and richest run the marg run for Chennai 2008 seems to be another first for Chennai just by the scale of it.

We�ve been watching celebs coming out and campaigning for the event but how many of them will actually run and support this run will be seen on Sunday. Anyway, over fifty thousand people are expected to participate in the run. The organizers say this event is for a race, the 'human race'. The marathon is for a good cause yes, over 13000 children are to be benefited from the run. 'A few steps from us is a giant leap for a child', says the motto. There are 4 categories in the event they are : The MARG Chennai Half Marathon Men & Women open to all above 18 years - 21.09 Km MARG Juniors Chennai Run Boys & Girls below 16 years - 7 Km MARG Masters Run Men & Women above 55 years - 3 Km MARG Wheel Chair Run Differently abled for wheel chair participants - 500 metres
