By H Ramakrishnan More Than Having The Blues

What's depression? A numb, empty feeling? A dull mood? Feeling sad and unhappy? Under constant strain? Lack of concentration? Inability to make decisions? A mood of worthlessness, absence of self confidence? Or, worse still, no awareness of feeling at all?

I happened to read a report on a survey conducted recently in Chennai. It says that over 90 per cent of school students, especially girls, suffer from one or more of the above mentioned psychological problems.

Stress can interfere with and severely affect their studies. It could also inflict lasting damage to their behavior and emotional well-being. It could also generate health problems.

Most of us, I am sure in our days had a carefree school-life. We didn't have any kind of stress or strain. Then how is that stress has been allowed to invade the lives of our very young students? Parents and educators can come together to help these students before they reach the breaking point. I hope something is done soon.
