Welcome to the so called D Day. We have had a 07 07 07. Another 080808 would come only after a hundred years.

In Chennai a campaign , '88888 Lights Out' has been arranged for this day by Exnora Internationals Civil Exnora unit. The Chennaiites are expected to turn off all lights for 8 minutes at the 8th hour on the 8th day in the 8th month of the 8th year of this millennium. Thus, from 8 to 8.08 pm, we will be in the dark! This is aimed at expressing our concern at the global warming.

A cousin of mine commented that you can involve the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and they will happily turn off all lights for not eight but 88 minutes! That way of course they are contributing their part everyday and helping us to find solutions to global warming.

You can' deny it. 08 08 08 has a very nice, musical ring to it. We know that 7-7-07 was a popular day. Many considered it auspicious to get married on that day. The world over, thousands of people got married.

Of course that was a Saturday. This time 8/8/08 is a Friday. In many foreign countries, Saturdays and Sundays are considered ideal for marriages. Though many in India consider 8 an inauspicious digit, in Chinese culture, it is a fantastic, lucky number. That is why they fixed that day for the inauguration of the Olympics. And, huge numbers of brides and grooms are going to tie the knot on 8 8 08.

In Russia too, thousands are getting married on 08 08 08. We wish all of them well.
