Homage To Sujatha
He
worked in the Civil Aviation Department of Government of India
and later, for Bharat Electronics in Bangalore. As an engineer,
he had a lot of foresight and could think ahead of his times. He
could develop advanced word processing even before we had our
personal computers.
He played with words. He could write with
effortless ease, short stories or screenplay for films, plays or
science fictions, essays or pieces on history. When most writers
remained content to dwell on the daily lives of people or to
simply offer a list of society's ills, Sujatatha could reach out
to the younger generation right from the seventies by his
innovative way of story telling. His style continued from Nylon
Kayiru, Anitha Ilam Manaivi to Indian and Shivaji. Generations
to come will benefit from his creations.
S. Rangarajan has several titles to his
credit. He had authored over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten
books on science, ten stage plays, and a volume of poems. He was
one of the most prolific and popular writers in Tamil. He also
contributed to topical columns in Tamil periodicals. He has a
wide readership. He also wrote screenplays and dialogues for
several Tamil movies.
He had the unique ability to explain science
in simple, understandable, lucid language to lay readers. He
brought originality, innovation and freshness to Tamil writing
on diverse subjects like archaeology, astrophysics,
biotechnology and ancient Tamil literature. His departure has
left Tamil literature the poorer.Chennaionline pays homage to
this Triplicane-born Tamil writer.
