By H Ramakrishnan She Is Sadly Mistaken

'This will unleash fear and uncertainty in the minds of investors. It is a setback to job opportunities for the youth of West Bengal. It is likely to be a stumbling block to GDP growth. What has happened is unfortunate for all progressive Indians.' This is how the usually silent Chairman of Infosys, Narayanamurthy has reacted to the happenings in Singur.

Did Tata make a mistake in choosing West Bengal for setting up the unit for the production of the much awaited Nano? He believed the West Bengal Government's promise. We cannot blame the State Government either. However it cannot be denied that the State Government has proved to be ineffective in as much as the employees are denied access to their factory. Budhadev's Government is unable even to implement the directive of the High Court to clear the highways.

If Ms Mamata Banerjee believes that she is doing something great in preventing Tata Motors' small car project from being implemented, she is sadly mistaken. Tata can go elsewhere and roll out the Nano. She knows not the likely damage her action will create.

She might be carried away by the presence of thousands of naive, gullible farmers, whose cause she says she is championing. Her joy is going to be short lived. If Tata moves out, that will mark the beginning of the end of her political career.
