Irrespective of whatever is said against our dear Electricity Minister Arcot Veeraswamy, none can charge him with favoritism or partiality. The power cut that he has so meticulously created is not biased. In fact, it has proved to be a great leveler, if one goes by the reports that appear in the press.
On Sunday, for instance, a Supreme Court Judge was one of the four judges who were caught trapped in a lift in the premises of the Madras High Court. His Lordship Justice Arijit Pasayat, accompanied by his wife Subala Pasavat, the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, His Lordship Justice A K Ganguly, his counterpart from the Andhra Pradesh High Court His Lordship Justice A K Dave and another Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Meena Kumari were the victims of a power cut last Sunday. They had taken the lift after attending a function. When the lift was approaching the first floor, power went off and Their Lordships were trapped in it, says a report. All that one can say is, 'My Lord!'
Another media report brought the news that a Government Maternity Hospital in Chennai was in the dark for about five hours due to power cut and the staff forced the visitors attending on pregnant women to get candles from outside. As some inmates were passing through labour pains, their kith and kin were worried about the callous attitude of the hospital staff.
Several Professional Colleges especially in the suburbs of Chennai have also reported that frequent and fluctuating power cuts have adversely affected their academic programme for the year.
The power cut doesn't discriminate!
