Now that Tata has decided finally to move out of Singur, Tamil Nadu should be the next automatic port of call. We in Tamil Nadu, possess the basic requirements for industrial growth such as land and water resources, sufficient highway and rail network to support the 'Nano' project. We have large airports in all parts of the state.
When earlier, Mr. Tata expressed concern over constant violence in Singur, many organizations in Tamil Tadu had requested the Chief Minister to invite Tata to the State. At that time Chief Minister Karunanidhi had said and rightly so, that it would be unethical to invite an industry unless it had decided to move out.
Now that Tata has finally taken the decision, the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has requested the Chief Minister to invite Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata to establish his small car production unit in the State.
The senior President of the Chamber has in a statement said that if the small car manufacturing unit is established near Madurai, it would act as a catalyst for setting up of a number of ancillary units in southern Tamil Nadu and accelerate industrial growth in the region.
The Chief Minster of Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa has already taken the lead in inviting Tata to that state. He has expressed the State's readiness to meet their requirement of land, water and power. He has promised that the Government was ready to extend necessary concessions as well. Karnataka Government is making all efforts to attract industrialists and entrepreneurs to the State.
At this juncture, I feel the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister should also extend a warm invitation to Tata to come to Tamil Nadu. We should not miss this golden opportunity.
