By H Ramakrishnan Remedy Worse Than The Disease!

The latest measures announced by the state government to deal with the power shortage are ill-conceived, unwise and misguided. According to the decision, domestic consumers who use more than six hundred units in two months will have to shell out fifty per cent more. No stretch of imagination could justify this. The middle class are already facing the attendant ordeals of power cut. Added to that is the present nightmare. This is hardly the way to deal with power shortage.

The other measures announced are no less hurting. No doubt, they will help inhibit our industrial growth and commercial activities. Already the global meltdown has caused a crisis to the IT units, aviation industry and even our own small scale units. Added to that is this bitter medicine prescribed by our unimaginative administrators.

The short sighted approach of the state administration is to be blamed for the present crisis and it is unfair to punish the public for no fault of theirs.

The worst affected are going to be those residing in rented houses. The owners will make them pay through their nose!

Alternate energy is the solution and the State Government has done precious little to harness solar and wind energy.

If the Government has any element of concern for the people, it should immediately withdraw this decision and focus on people friendly measures.
