The past few years have seen many rapid changes in the approach to teaching children. The need to make education interesting and also informative for children has at last been realised by schools and teachers. As a result, we see computer centres like 'IT Kids' that teach academics with the help of computers. Here the children are free to imagine, create, think innovately and enjoy the roller coaster ride through computer technology.
IT Kids' package for this summer comprises age appropriate camps where the children will learn the rudiments of computers and the finer nuances of animating and editing Audio. The camps, Animation, Multimedia, Internet were launched in all the centres of IT Kids. With interesting themes and creative projects, the age specific curriculum strives to tap the imagination of the children. In the animation camp, kids will create, edit and mix 2D Animation, Sound, Music, and Voice, which will enable them to compose new music.
"We believe in giving a sound foundation in the various nuances involved in animation to our students. Even a professional may not be familiar with them," says Mr. Narayanan, Director, IT Kids. "I believe that we will have to tap the creativity in children before they reach the age of 10 or 11 because, until then they will be fresh with innovative ideas and abundant creativity. But as they grow older the parents and other grownups supplant their ideas in them, the children then develop preconceived notions and no longer think differently," said Mr. Narayanan.
Going around the center, we find an interactive atmosphere in the classroom with children, who are just 4-years-old asking questions and the faculty answering them patiently. As we crowd around a 5-year-old, who is seriously drawing a picture in the computer, he turns around and points proudly towards the screen and shows the picture that he has made. This certainly makes one point clear, with interesting themes like time travelling the children find computer education easy to learn.
IT Kids is a pioneer in this mode of education. Several others have now come up, each with their own unique and innovative methods and philosophies. Some of these are Future Kids, Fourth R and Techno Kids.
