c. Ask your children to describe people, animals, and events to you. Help them to be observant about everyday things around them. d. Provide a listening ear, asking questions about what they have written. Encourage them to read their story to other family members as well. e. Encourage your child to take notes when visiting a zoo or museum or while on vacation and use those notes to write about the event when he or she returns home. f. Show your child an old family photograph or a picture cut from a magazine, then ask him or her to make up a story about the photograph or picture.
h. Support your child's writing efforts. Take a positive approach and don't criticize handwriting or incorrect spelling.
