Government's move to 'saffronize' education

Education

Education is considered to be the solution to most of the socio-economic problems in India. It is through spreading of Education can a country put the thinking of its people in the right direction . It is education that can prevent people from being victims of Irrational thoughts. Only education can realize the dreams of our forefathers, dreams of a developed India. The quality of education determines the character and prosperity of a nation and its citizens. Right from the kindergartens, it is essential that the children are taught value based education. The current system of education is quite effective, though it has some chinks in its armour.

Recently the Government has, for some reason, decided to add Astrology and its allied subjects to the U.G.C courses. They also plan to rewrite history in such a way that the minorities are potrayed as invaders and exploiters of Hindus. This is termed by the observers as saffronisation of education. This is an attempt to tailor the minds of the youth and drive a wedge between the majority community and the minorities of the country. The current effort of the Government to 'saffronize' education is a retrospective step which deviates from the path of cognitive development. This effort is against the secular fabric of the country. Referring back to history, one should remember how all authoritarian rulers captured the minds of their people before pushing through their narrow agenda.

The communalistic outfits have tightened their grips over autonomous and governmental organisations. Now through the curriculum modification, they are planning to manipulate the minds of Indian citizens also. This is an issue which needs to be condemed at the highest level. Such a step is highly dangerous as it can plant the seeds of hatred in the young minds.

We should be proud of the fact that India is a land of pluralistic religions. We should ensure that caste-based outfits do not tamper the very essence of our nation. With many vital issues lying unattended, one hopes that the Government would concentrate on them rather than showing unnecessary interest on a wrong concept.
