Archaeology is one of those subjects that are gaining popular acceptance among the student community. Though not many educational institutions offer this subject, there is every likelihood that it would be taught in many institutions, soon, because of the popularity that it enjoys.
Syllabus
The students of Archaeology will have to spend most of their time, learning in the grand old sites of the ruins, which is the actual textbook for them, so to say. The various subjects that they may have to study are Archaeological Science, Principles, History, Art, Excavation, Preservation by chemical processes etc.
Educational Institutions
Though many institutions offer Archaeology as a subject many students wish to pursue this course through the Institution of Archaeology, which is attached to the Department of Archaeology. In Tamil Nadu, the University of Madras offers Masters, research and doctoral degrees. The Madras Christian College offers bachelor’s degree in Archaeology.

Qualification:
Those who want to pursue Archaeology for their Bachelor’s degree should have studied History as a subject in +2.
Those who want to continue their Master’s degree in Archaeology should have a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or any other related subject.
Those who want to study in the Institute of Archaeology (two years) should have a Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology, with a minimum of 55% of marks. Candidates will be selected after written test and interview. The candidate will get a stipend of Rs.600/- per month.
Job Opportunities
The successful candidates can get placements in the Department of Archaeology. Apart from these job opportunities are available in educational and research institutions, museums and art galleries.
