Tamil works nationalised
The works of later Tamil scholars, Na Mu Venkatasamy Nattar, modern Tamil poet Na Pichamurthy and novelist Ka Na Subramaniam have been nationalised.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa handed over Rs 5 lakh each to the families of these writers in Chennai on March 1.
Venkatasamy Nattar, an outstanding scholar and researcher, wrote books on ancient Tamil poets Nakeerar and Kabilar, the history of Cholas,
besides publishing notes on Silapathikaram, Manimekalai, Ahananooru, Athichoodi, Kondrai Vendhan, Yapparunkalankarigai and other Tamil works.
Pichamurthy, who blazed a new trail in modern Tamil literature through his free verses, published 130 stories, 10 dramas and 40 articles. He belonged to the Manikodi (a literary magazine of great repute) era in Tamil literature.
Ka Na Subramanyam (Ka Na Su - 31.1.1912 to 16.12.1988) was born in Valangaiman in Thanjavur. Ka Na Su's first literary influences go back to his father, who held English classical literature in esteem.
With a B.A. degree from Annamalai university, he showed great aptitude for writing. In 1935-36 Ka Na Su came in contact with Manikodi. As one of the great litterateurs of India, he wrote novels, short stories, poems and literatrary criticism in the course over 50 years of a persisting literary creative period, numbering over 70 books. His first novel, Pasi' was published in 1943.
He was also a great translator of English works into Tamil and Tamil works into English.
