'Tall Tales'
Jasper Utley, formerly Director, British Council, South India, is visiting Chennai to mark the release of his book for children, 'Tall Tales' published by Penguin Books India.
Set in Chennai, 'Tall Tales' is a delightful collection of funny, feisty stories told through the eyes of a young boy who hears the most improbable stories from his great-grandfather. Great-grandfather claims to be over a 100 years old and is a South Indian gentleman of immense character, though he might not look it. Dressed in his trademark white dhoti and cotton shirt, he sits in his battered white cane chair in the garden all day, and drinks cup after cup of hot, sweet, milky tea...and tells his great-grandson the most incredible stories.
There isn't a thing that he hasn't done in his younger days - right from capturing a tiger, encountering a ghost, running a detective agency and even beating the viceroy's team in a cricket match.
At the Culture Cafe, Utley will make a reading from his book 'Tall Tales', for Young Learner Centre members on Saturday 9th April from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the British Council Library, 737 Anna Salai, Chennai-2.
