Harry Potter magic in Chennai
The sixth book of the Harry Potter series was finally released all over India and around the world on July 16. The excitement and enthusiasm among the readers in Chennai was so intense that people queued out side bookstores since 4 a.m. to get their copies of 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince'.
Odyssey bookstore started selling books at 5 a.m., followed by Landmark, that opened its store at 6.30 a.m. Potter fans mobbed the bookstores and couldn't wait to see what J K Rowling had in store for them in the sixth book.
Rajarajeshwari, a housewife, the first person to get hold of the book, said, "There is nothing more exciting. At least, I haven't found any. I decided a month ago that I should be here by 4 in the morning." Rajarajeshwari had booked her copy a month ago in Landmark.
T S Sharan, one of the first five to get the book in Landmark, says, "I am like waiting and have been waiting for the past two years and propose to finish the book today itself in spite of my 10 std exams tomorrow."
The books have been given to the customers on order basis. The booking started two months ago. Landmark offered 10 per cent discount on the books and held various contests.
Odyssey priced the book at Rs 764 and held a contest where a person got picked in a lucky draw based on his/her slogan, to go to London with a companion. They get to visit the Hogwarts castle and ride the train, etc. Srilakshmi Sundarajan, a 22-year-old student from Sri Ramachandra Medical College was the lucky winner. She said, "It was totally unbelievable, unexpected and exciting. Didn't realise the magnitude and only now it's sinking in."
Bits and parts from the book were revealed by the author before its release. Albus Dumbledore being one of the most favourite and main characters of the book, a guardian angel to Harry Potter, is going to die in this book The fans are very upset about this turn of events.
