Charkha Audiobooks has launched its next production - Mahatma Gandhi's Autobiography. The publishers of Wings of Fire, the autobiography of President A P J Abdul Kalam, have launched their next production, Audiobook of 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth' - the autobiography of M K Gandhi. With the brilliant narrative of Shekhar Kapur and Nandita Das accentuated with sensitive music, the essence of Mahatma Gandhi comes alive in this audio book.
A Annamalai, director, Gandhi Study Centre, Chennai, received the first copy of the book from Nandita Das in Chennai recently. Renowned celebrities, Thota Tharani and Anurada Srirarn, were present and shared their thoughts on this production and on the relevance of Gandhi in today's world.
Commenting on the occasion, C P Viswanath, director, Karadi Tales Company, said, "Charkha Audiobooks seeks to capture and communicate the essence of great Indian lives and Indian classics by creating a unique experience through audio and print. We would continue to take our customers through a memorable experience with our forthcoming productions including Kalidasa's Shakuntala and a series on India's poet-saints Kabir, Tulsidas and
Tukaram."
The whole idea of making it an audiobook is to enhance the experience of a book with voice, music and sound. The experience is textured with subtle and contextual music by 3 Brothers & A Violin. A careful selection of Mahatma's much loved devotional songs adds emotions beautifully. Special thematic illustrations by Thota Tharani add life to the book, promising a powerful experience.
Odyssey, a leading retail chain, known for its events and promotions, played host to the launch of this
'Charkha Audiobook'.
It recently relocated its flagship Adyar store from 6,500 sq.ft to an 18,000 sq.ft store.
"Real suffering, bravely borne, melts even a heart of stone. Such is the potency of suffering. And there lies the key to Satyagraha" - remembering Gandhi's words in this l00th year of Satyagraha. Year 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of the first Satyagraha. Never has it been more relevant than now to rediscover the essence of Mahatma Gandhi, said Nandita Das at the launch in
Chennai.
She said she had read the autobiography years ago but going through the audiobook was a moving and unforgettable experience, and she could discover far more about the book, thanks to the mood created by Shekhar Kapur and the music.
"My grandparents used to sing Vaishnavo Janato, and I have heard it often. But hearing it as part of this audiobook was an emotional experience," Nandita said.
