Rajiv assassination book in Tamil
The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by a human bomb sent shock waves throughout the world. The mammoth investigation by the Special Invistigation Team with D R Karthikeyan, a 1964 batch IPS officer, was appreciated by the apex court and also considered as a model investigation by international agencies like Interpol.
While thousands were examined, as many as 1,044 witnesses were cited and over 10,000 pages of witness statements were submitted to the court along with the chargesheet. During the course of investigation, nearly 500 video cassettes were seized, scrutinised along with over a million photographs. As many as 1,477 documents were produced in evidence and 1,180 material objects were exhibited in the court during the trial.
Karthikeyan wrote the book 'Triumph of Truth: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination - The Investigation' on the investigation, trial in the special court, appeal in the Supreme Court and the apex court verdict. The book, written in English, has been translated into many Indian languages, including Tamil.
'Vaaimaiyin Vetri: Rajiv Gandhi Padukolai - Pulanaivu', the Tamil version of the English book, is now ready for launch. The 350-page book has been translated by S Chandra Mouli, a journalist, and published by Rajarajan Padhippagam. The cost of the book is Rs 220.
The function to mark the launch of the book published by Rajarajan Pathippagam will be held on March 28, 2006. Justice Karpagavinayagam, Judge of the Madras High Court, will release the book and the first copy will be received by Soundhara Kailasam. Writer Sujatha will introduce the book and actor Sivakumar will read excerpts from the book.
