Manipravala commentary into Tamil

It would not be surprising for people to organise a Carnatic music programme or a light music programme during a wedding reception. But what was surprising was that psychiatrist, Dr T R Suresh, had organised for a book release function as part of the wedding celebration of his daughter.

TNR

Dr Suresh is none other than the son of Sekkizhar Adi-p-podi T N Ramachandran, or TNR, as he is fondly known as. He has been silently propagating Saivite philosophy throughout the world with his translations and publishing work. It was only fitting that the book release function took place at the wedding celebration of his granddaughter.

The function took place on June 9, 2006, at Kalaignar Arangam in Anna Arivalayam, around 3 p.m.

Thamizhkadal Brahmasri T V Gopala Ayyar has translated into Tamil Periyavachan Pillai's 'Manipravala' (mixture of Sanskrit and Tamil) commentary (vurai - in Tamil) to Thirumangai Mannan's Prabhandangal.

The two volumes were released by TNR and the first copies were received by industrialist and philanthropist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti.

Retired professor of Madras University A A Manavalan explained lucidly that it was translations that took the original to the people.

He quoted the examples of great texts and said it was only through translations that the general public came to know of the greatness of Mahabharata or Ramayana.

Vaishnavite scholar Mohanarangan waxed eloquent about Vaishnavite philosophy and the merits and the drawbacks of the translation.

Aged scholar Gopala Ayyar thanked everyone for the felicitations and said the third and the final part of the translation would be released soon.

Sekkizhar Adi-p-podi proposed a vote of thanks and brought the function to a close.
