Book on presentation skills
The Chennai-based publishing firm Emerald Publishers has launched a new book titled 'Presentation Skills for the Upwardly Mobile'. This book, authored by the internationally known speaker and trainer from Australia, Roz Townsend, brings out in lucid style an important aspect of soft skills which are critical for the growth of an individual. The book is available in all leading bookstores and is priced at Rs 60.
G Olivannan, CEO, Emerald Publishers, said, “Presentation Skills for the Upwardly Mobile is one such in the series of books planned to commemorate 25 years of Emerald Publishers. To cater to a rapidly growing audience for general books, we have focused on titles of broad interest in the last five years like language learning, self-enrichment and personality development. These books are designed to focus on development of soft and communication skills in students and young executives. In this year, the silver jubilee year, we plan to release 25 books, which will revolve around personality development and soft skills."
Olivannan stressed that the southern states produced many thousand engineers every year but a good percentage of them remain unemployed because they lacked soft skills and communication in English. Emerald Publishers addresses this lacuna so that young, aspiring students and executives do not stagnate or remain unemployed because of a quality which can be learnt and developed.
The author of the book, Roz Townsend, who travels around the world training different types of people in different environments, said, “Soft skills are those skills that help a person project himself as a learned, cultured human being. The refinement of his/her personality is reflected in the deployment of soft skills like communication ability, initiative, leadership qualities and social grace.”
She added, “Globalisation and the multicultural atmosphere called for young executives to be equally adept in making presentations to different audiences while also understanding the nature of business they are in."
During the last two years, Emerald Publishers has entered into agreements with several authors and publishers in Australia (Finch Publishing), United Kingdom (Polish Scientific Publishers), US (John Hopkins University Press) and Singapore (Asia Pac Books) to republish their works for the Indian readers.
Emerald Publishers has entered into a strategic alliance with Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group, China, for co-publishing, translation, identifying writers, and sharing knowledge.
Since the readability of Tamil books has been increasing steadily, a separate division has been set-up to bring out books in Tamil. This provides scope for Tamil writers across continents to have their books published through Emerald Publishers, which has an extensive distribution network in Tamil-speaking areas. The first of the book, 'Compendium on the Culture of the Tamils', in two volumes, authored by an erudite scholar from Malaysia, has
been already published. They also intend to translate works authored by internationally-acclaimed writers into Tamil.
Emerald Publishers, with its enormous experience in the publishing industry, is diversifying into the area of electronic publishing.
