Education and Career Expo 2006
Plus-two students in Chennai have reason to be pleased. The reason being the 'Education and Career Expo 2006' which is under way at Valluvar Kottam till May 21. The expo, that kicked off on May 19, is primarily for plus-two candidates and the timing of this exhibition comes as a big relief to the anxious students. As Satish of Prompt Publications, the organiser of the expo, puts it, "This is the time for plus-two results and entrance exams and we expect a good response." The crowd at Valluvar Kottam speaks for the enthusiasm of the students.
From engineering colleges to fashion-design institutes, students can find a wide range of stalls in the fair. There are stalls put up by many banks as well. "This is an opportunity for us to popularise the various educational loan schemes," says V Sriram of the Punjab National Bank stall.
One of the highlights of the expo is the stall set up by the Indian Air force. J P Yadav of the Indian Air force stall says that the response he received is very good. "There are many interested students and even the parents are enquiring about career opportunities in the Indian Air Force," he says.
There are various stalls for those who prefer relatively unconventional career options as well. Take for example the stall by the Chennai Film Industrial School. "I think the media boom is the reason for enthusiasm among students for courses like these," says a woman executive in charge of a stall. There are also stalls by design institutes, hotel management institutes, and 'study abroad' institutes.
There is something in the expo for final year students of colleges as well. "I want to go abroad for my higher studies and I came here to study the various offers," says Ahmed, who is a working executive. There are stalls like 'Study in Germany' where people like Ahmed can enquire about the various foreign institutes and the courses they offer. "Getting a visa to study in Germany is much easier," says Siddharth Kamath of the 'Study in Germany' stall.
"I came to know about so many new courses only after I came to this place. Such educational fairs are very useful for students as they give an outline about the courses and give us an opportunity to interact with the people concerned," says Meenakshi, a student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
If you are a student in search for the ideal career option, do visit the expo, which is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday will be a hectic day at the stalls.
